하나님 말씀을 무시할 때

여호사밧이 아합 왕과 전쟁에 합류하기로 약속했을 때,
자신은 의롭게 처신한다고 확신했을 겁니다.
실제로 성경은 이렇게 기록합니다.
“여호사밧이 또 이스라엘 왕에게 이르되,
“원하건대 오늘 주의 말씀에 여쭈어 보소서, 하니라.” (역대하 18:4)
그는 “그 일에 대해 주님께 조언을 구합시다.
우리는 그분에게서 들을 때까지는 행하지 않을 것입니다!”라고 말했던 것입니다.
하나님께서는 여호사밧과 아합에게 그 모든 계획에 대해 어떻게 생각하시는지
한 점의 의혹도 없이 분명히 말씀하셨습니다.
“그건 파멸이다! 위험을 감수하라. 그 전쟁터에는 죽음과 패배만이 너를 기다리고 있다.”
(역대하 18:16 참조)
이 시점에서 볼 때, 여호사밧은 진실된 예언의 말씀에 순종하며
하나님께서 그에게 말씀하신 모든 것을 시행하려는 것 같았습니다.
그러나 수 세기 동안 성서학자들은 그 다음에 일어난 일에 대해 기이하게 생각했습니다.
여호사밧이 명확한 하나님의 말씀을 들었는데도 그것을 무시해버렸던 것입니다!
사랑하는 여러분, 여러분은 하나님을 사랑하는 것과
그분께 순종하려는 열망에 대해 실컷 자랑할 수 있습니다.
그러나 당신이 불경건한 친구들의 현혹으로부터 떨쳐 나와 성령의 분별력을 구하지 않는다면,
결국 하나님의 말씀을 무시하게 되는 것입니다.
당신이 당신 친구와 그의 전쟁에 동참할 수는 있겠지만,
막상 승산이 없어지면 그는 적에게 당신을 넘길 것입니다.
그것이 바로 여호사밧이 아합과 함께 전쟁에 나갔을 때 일어난 일이었습니다.
이 사악한 왕 아합은 여호사밧이 살해를 당하게끔 역모를 꾸몄습니다.
자신은 병사의 옷을 입는 반면, 여호사밧에게는 자신의 왕복을 입으라고 권했습니다.
그렇게 하면 적군이 자기대신 여호사밧을 추격할 것으로 생각했던 것입니다.
공교롭게도, 아합은 갑옷 이음새를 뚫고 들어온 화살을 맞고 죽었습니다.
그리고 여호사밧은 홀연히 적군 병사들에게 포위당했고,
그들의 칼에 맞아 죽기 일보 직전이었습니다.
여호사밧은 자신이 죽음을 직면했다는 사실을 깨닫고 하나님께 부르짖었습니다.
성경은 우리에게 이렇게 말합니다.
“이에 주께서 그를 도우시고 하나님께서 그들을 움직여 그에게서 떠나게 하시니라.” (18:31)
그 전쟁은 완전 패배였습니다.
이스라엘 군병은 목자 없는 양 떼처럼 혼란 가운데서 탈주했습니다.
그리고 여호사밧은, 그의 친구 아합은 죽고 그의 군대는 패배당한 채, 예루살렘으로 철수했습니다.
그가 죽음의 고비를 넘긴 것은 오직 하나님의 은혜 덕분이었습니다!
여호사밧이 예루살렘으로 급히 도피할 때 무슨 생각이 그의 마음을 사로잡았을지 상상이 됩니다:
"오 하나님, 제 목숨을 구해주셔서 감사합니다!
이제서야 제가 악한 친구와 동행하는 것이 얼마나 위험한 일인지를 깨달았습니다.
주님! 제가 다시는 결단코 세속적 체제와 결탁하지 않겠습니다. 이것으로 끝입니다!"
IGNORING GOD’S WORD

I am certain that Jehoshaphat was convinced he was acting righteously when he
pledged to join Ahab in war. In fact, Scripture says, "Jehoshaphat said unto
the king of Israel, Inquire, I pray thee, at the word of the Lord today" (2
Chronicles 18:4). He said, "Let's ask the Lord for His counsel on the matter.
We won't act until we hear from Him!"
God made His word to Jehoshaphat and Ahab clear, leaving no doubt as to what He
thought about the whole affair: "It's doomed! Go at your own risk. Nothing but
death and defeat await you on the battlefield" (see 2 Chronicles 18:16).
At this point, Jehoshaphat seemed willing to obey a true prophetic word and do
everything God told him. Yet, for centuries, Bible scholars have marveled at
what happened next: When the clear word came, Jehoshaphat ignored it!
Beloved, you can boast all you want about loving God and wanting to obey Him.
But if you do not break away from the deception of ungodly friends and seek
Holy Ghost discernment, you will end up ignoring God's Word!
You may accompany your friend in his war but when the chips are down, he will
hand you over to the enemy. That's just what happened to Jehoshaphat when he
went to war with Ahab. The evil king set up Jehoshaphat to be killed; he told
him to dress in his kingly robes, while Ahab himself dressed as a soldier. That
way, Ahab reasoned, the enemy would go after Jehoshaphat instead of himself.
Ironically, Ahab was killed by an arrow that pierced him through a tiny slot in
his armor. And suddenly, Jehoshaphat was surrounded by enemy soldiers, who were
ready to cut him to pieces. The king knew he was facing death and he cried out
to God for help. Scripture tells us, "And the Lord helped him; and God moved
them to depart from him" (18:31).
The war was a disaster. Israel's army fled in disarray, like sheep without a
shepherd. And Jehoshaphat retreated to Jerusalem, his friend Ahab dead and his
armies defeated. It was only by God's grace that he escaped death!
I can imagine the thoughts that must have raced through Jehoshaphat's mind as
he hurried back to Jerusalem: "Oh, God, thank You for delivering me! Now I see
the danger of walking with an ungodly companion. Never again, Lord! I won't be
a part of that worldly system anymore. It's all over now!"
