그리스도의 얼굴을 바라보는 사역

바울은 특별한 은사나 재능을 요구하는 사역을 말하고 있는 것이 아니었습니다.
그보다는, 거듭난 성도라면 누구든 실행해야 하는 사역을 말하고 있었던 것입니다.
이 사역은 모든 성도에게 있어서 첫 번째 부르심이며,
이러한 부르심으로부터 시발 되지 않았다면,
그 어떤 사역도
하나님을 기쁘게 할 수 없습니다.
저는 지금 여러분께 그리스도의 얼굴을 바라보는 사역에 관해 말씀 드리고 있습니다.
바울은 이렇게 말했습니다.
"우리는 다 가리지 않은 얼굴로 거울을 보는 것 같이 주의 영광을 바라보며..." (고린도후서 3:18)
주님의 영광을 바라본다는 것이 과연 무슨 뜻일까요?
바울이 여기서 말하고 있는 것은 헌신적이며 집중된 예배, 오직 그분만을 바라보기 위해
하나님께 드려지는 예배의 시간입니다.
바울은 또 다음 구절을 얼른 추가했습니다.
“그러므로 우리가 이 사역을 맡았은즉...” (고린도후서 4:1).
그리스도의 얼굴을 바라보는 것이 우리 모두가 헌신해야만 하는 사역이라는 것을
바울은 명백히 말하고 있습니다.
위 구절에 사용된 단어 '바라보다'를 헬라어로 보면 매우 강한 표현입니다.
그 표현을 해석하자면,
그것은 단지 바라본다는 행위에 국한된 것이 아니라
“고정시켜 앙망하다”라는 의미를 함축하고 있습니다.
즉, “나는 이 현장에서 움직이지 않을 것입니다.
내가 다른 무엇을 하기 전에, 단 한 가지라도 성취하려는 노력 이전에,
반드시 하나님의 임재 안에 거해야만 합니다.” 라고 결단하는 자세를 의미합니다.
많은 그리스도인이 “거울을 보는 것 같이”라는 구절을 잘못 해석하고 있습니다.
그들이 생각하는 것은, 그들에게 반영된 예수님의 얼굴이 보이는 거울입니다.
그러나 바울이 말하는 것은 그 뜻이 아닙니다.
그가 뜻하고 있는 것은,
더 명확히 보기 위해 투명한 유리를 통해서 무언가를 진지하게 들여다보는 것과 같은,
강렬하게 초점이 맞춰진 응시를 말합니다.
우리는 그리스도의 얼굴에서 하나님의 영광을 보기를 단호히 결심하며,
바로 그렇게 “우리의 시선을 고정” 시켜야 합니다.
우리는 오로지 한 신념으로
지성소에 들어가 우리 자신을 분리시키고는,
열렬히 그분만을 앙망하는 집중된 헌신으로 친교 해야 합니다.
그리하여 우리가 변화되도록 말입니다.
한 성도가 그리스도의 얼굴을 바라볼 때 어떤 일이 일어날까요?
바울은 이렇게 기록합니다.
"우리는… 같은 형상으로 변화되어 영광에서 영광에 이르렀나니,
이것은 곧 주의 영으로 말미암은 것이니라." (고린도후서 3:18)
이 구절에서 ‘변화되어’라는 단어의 헬라어 의미는,
'변형된' 또는 '변모된'이라는 의미로
“(애벌레가 나비로 변하듯) 완전히 바뀐"이라는 뜻입니다.
그리스도를 향해 계속 그들의 시선을 강렬하게 고정시켜 앙망하는 모든 성도는 변화될 수 밖에 없습니다. 그들에게는 변형이 일어나고 있는 것입니다.
그 성도는 끊임없이 예수 그리스도의 형상과 성품으로 닮아갑니다.
BEHOLDING THE FACE OF CHRIST

Paul speaks of a ministry that does not require particular gifts or talents;
rather, it is to be undertaken by all who have been born again. This ministry
is every believer's first calling and no ministry can be pleasing to God unless
it is birthed out of this calling.
I am talking about the ministry of beholding the face of Christ. Paul says, "We
all, with open face beholding as in a glass the glory of the Lord" (2
Corinthians 3:18).
What does it mean to behold the Lord's glory? Paul is speaking here of devoted,
focused worship, time that is given to God simply to behold Him. And the apostle
quickly adds, "Therefore seeing we have this ministry" (4:1). Paul makes it
clear that beholding the face of Christ is a ministry we all must devote
ourselves to.
The Greek word for beholding in the verse above is a very strong expression. It
indicates not just taking a look, but "fixing the gaze." It means deciding, "I
won't move from this position. Before I do anything else, before I try to
accomplish a single thing, I must be in God's presence."
Many Christians misinterpret the phrase "beholding as in a glass." They think
of a mirror, with Jesus' face being reflected back to them. But that is not
Paul's meaning here. He is speaking of an intensely focused gaze, as if peering
at something earnestly through a glass, trying to see it more clearly. We are to
"fix our eyes" this way, determined to see God's glory in the face of Christ. We
are to shut ourselves in the holy of holies with but one obsession: to gaze so
intently, and to commune with such devotion, that we are changed.
What happens as a believer beholds the face of Christ? Paul writes, "We . . .
are changed into the same image from glory to glory, even as by the Spirit of
the Lord" (2 Corinthians 3:18).
The Greek word for changed here is "metamorphosed," meaning transformed,
transfigured. Everyone who often fixes his gaze intently on Christ is being
metamorphosed. A transfiguration is taking place. That person is continually
being changed into the likeness and character of Jesus.
