성숙한 성도의 표적

“온갖 교리의 풍조에 밀려 이리저리 다니는” (에베소서 4:14)
일을 거부하는 것이 성숙한 성도의 표적입니다.
그러한 성도들은 그 어느 선생의 영향력에 의해서도 조종되지 않습니다.
그들은 이리저리 뛰어다닐 필요가 없습니다.
왜냐하면, 그들은 푸른 초장에서 잔치하며, 그리스도 안에서 성장하고 있기 때문입니다.
그들은 그리스도를 경험으로 알았습니다.
그들은 음악이나 친구들, 또는 어떤 특정한 인물이나 기적들에 마음을 빼앗기지 않고,
오직 순전한 하나님의 말씀을 향한 갈망에 사로잡혀 있습니다.
바울은 이렇게 말했습니다.
“그들은 매사에 우리 구주 하나님의 교리를 돋보이게 하려 함이라.” (디도서 2:10)
그리스도의 교리가 무엇일까요?
하나님의 은혜는 우리로 하여금 “불경건과 세상 정욕들을 거부하고,
우리로 신중하며, 의롭고 경건하게 이 현 세상을 살아가도록” (디도서 2:11-12) 가르칩니다.
그리스도의 교리는 당신으로 하여금 그리스도의 형상을 닮아가도록 할 것입니다.
또한, 그것은 모든 감춰진 죄와 악한 욕망을 드러낼 것입니다.
당신의 선생은 디도서 2장에서 가르치는 대로,
죄를 버리고 모든 우상을 내려놓으라고 설교하고 권면하며, 권위를 갖고 책망합니까?
당신은 온 힘을 다해 죄를 미워하는 것을 배우고 계십니까?
아니면 여전히 깊은 각성 없이 교회를 나섭니까?
그리스도 교리의 메시지는 바로 이것입니다.
“우리가 하나님을 두려워함으로 거룩함을 온전히 이루어, 육과 영의 모든 더러움에서 우리 자신을 깨끗하게 하자.” (고린도후서 7:1)
많은 사람이 제게 그들의 목사님이 이렇게 말했다는 편지를 보냅니다.
“저는 죄에 대해 설교하기 위해 이 자리에 있는 것이 아닙니다.
저는 예수님을 높여 드리기 위해 여기에 있습니다.” 또는,
“여러분은 이 강단으로부터 정죄하는 설교는 절대 듣지 않을 겁니다! 저는 제 회중들로부터
두려움과 절망을 걷어내기 위해 이 자리에 있답니다.”
오순절파 목사님들도 두 부류의 극단이 있습니다.
어떤 설교자들은 사랑이 결여된, 단지 행위만을 강조하는 딱딱하고 율법적인 복음을 외치는 반면,
또 다른 설교자들은 같은 메시지에서 그 모든 진리를 빼버린 채,
겁쟁이처럼 죄에 대해서 설교하지 않습니다.
그리스도의 교리는 경건함과 거룩함의 교리입니다.
“만일 누군가가 다르게 가르치며, 건전한 말씀, 곧 우리 주 예수 그리스도의 말씀과 경건에 따른
교리에 일치하지 아니하면, 그는 교만해서 아무것도 아는 것이 없고 다만 질문과 언쟁만 좋아하는 자니 거기서 시기와 다툼과 악담과 사악한 의심이 생겨나며.” (디모데전서 6:3-4)
그리스도의 교리에 합당한 설교는 당신을 축복하고 굳세게 하며 격려합니다.
그러나 그것은 또한 당신의 죄를 깊이 깨닫게 하므로
숨겨진 죄를 붙들고 태연히 앉아 있을 수 없게 할 것입니다.
THE MARK OF A MATURE BELIEVER

The mark of a mature believer is a refusal to be "tossed to and fro . . . with
every wind of doctrine" (Ephesians 4:14). Such believers cannot be manipulated
by any teacher. They do not need to run around, because they are feasting in
green pastures, growing up in Christ. They have learned Christ. They will not
be captivated by music, friends, personalities or miracles, but by a hunger for
the pure Word.
Paul said, "That they may adorn the doctrine of God our Savior in all things"
(Titus 2:10). What is Christ's doctrine? The grace of God teaches us that
“denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously,
and godly, in this present world (Titus 2:11-12). The doctrine of Christ will
conform you to the image of Christ. It will expose every hidden sin and every
evil longing.
Is your teacher rebuking with authority, speaking and exhorting you to forsake
sin and lay down all idols as instructed in Titus 2? Are you learning to hate
sin passionately? Or do you leave church, still not deeply convicted? The
message of the doctrine of Christ is, "Let us cleanse ourselves from all
filthiness of flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God" (2
Corinthians 7:1).
Many write to us saying that their pastors tell them, “I'm not here to preach
against sin; I'm here to lift up Jesus.” Or, “You’ll hear none of that
condemnation preaching from this pulpit! I'm here to lift the fear and
depression off my people.” Even Pentecostal preachers have two extremes. Some
scream a hard, legalistic gospel without love, merely of works; others preach
against sin like cowards, taking it all back in the same message.
The doctrine of Christ is a doctrine of godliness and holiness. "If any man
teach otherwise, and consent not to wholesome words, even the words of our Lord
Jesus Christ, and to the doctrine which is according to godliness; he is proud,
knowing nothing, but doting about questions and strifes of words, whereof
cometh envy, strife, railings, evil surmisings" (1 Timothy 6:3-4).
The preaching of Christ's doctrine will bless, strengthen and encourage you,
but it will also convict you so deeply you cannot sit under it and still cling
to a secret sin.
